Neil Rech’s Story – Body Building in your fifties? I am living proof it is not too late to strive for the perfect body!
“I believe that if you are motivated, you can start bodybuilding at any age. I had a wakeup call at my doctor’s surgery early in 2002. I went to the doctor for what I thought was a simple check up. My family GP who has looked after my health for over 20 years told me to hop on the scales. Much to my shock he said that I was obese. At 90 kilos and 168 centimetres tall, this description didn’t compute to me.
But my doctor was adamant. For my health’s sake, he said that I had to lose weight. Obese was not how I saw myself. On the contrary, I had always prided myself on being fit and healthy. I have played sport of some description most of my life and have a box full of trophies from my early years to prove it. When I had to stop playing sport because of a tear in my rotor cuff tendon, I took up jogging. This kept me fit and lean for 10 years but every step was painful because of my damaged knee as a result of a workplace accident when I was 29. My knee was starting to give out under the pounding on the pavement and I was running less and less often. What now? I never saw myself as a gym junkie. But I was running out of options.”

Neil Rech’s quest for fitness
On the 3 March 2002, an overweight 46 year old Neil Rech began his quest to get fit and healthy and reduce his waistline by joining a gym in Canberra, the capital of Australia. Neil did his own thing at the gym and mucked around with weights, exercise bikes and cross trainers and this kept him reasonably fit, and happy, for a while.
In April 2004 Neil Rech became frustrated with the restrictions of not being able to lift weights above his head because of his bad shoulder or do squats because of his bad right knee. (To this day Neil has never done squats even with an unloaded bar.) In desperation, Neil asked Harry Haureliuk, a celebrated and highly accomplished bodybuilder who happened to work at the gym, for advice on how to use the equipment in the gym withhis physical restrictions. After several discussions, Harry suggested that Neil could work around his injuries and developed a personal exercise program tailored to his needs……. and so the story begins.
After three years of regular gym training, Harry started to suggest that Neil should compete in the next competition which was to be held later that year, the 2007 50+ ACT Natural Physique Bodybuilding Titles. Neil thought Harry was joking at first but after his persistent requests to join him in the competition and the encouragement of his gym colleagues, Neil decided that he would give it a go. As the competition was only 9 weeks away, he started a strict diet and exercise program andattended posing classes every Friday night for 6 weeks. With two weeks to go, Harry gave Neil two bodybuilding magazines to look at and get a feel for what a bodybuilder should look like. This was the first time Neil had looked through such a magazine and did not relate to the seemingly distorted and oversized bodies which bore little resemblance to his own. More intimidating still was the fact that he had never seen a bodybuilding competition before. He was truly a novice at the sport in every sense of the word.
Yet at his very first competition in October 2007, much to his surprise Neil finished fourth. Neil had a major shoulder reconstruction in March 2008 and did not compete again until October 2008 also at the ACT Natural Physique Titles where he finished a creditable second behind Harry Haureliuk, the 2006 INBA Mr Olympia and Mr Universe – Grand Master. This was an outstanding achievement as Neil was severely restricted in his gym regime as a result of the shoulder reconstruction.

Hi Frank
I just arrived back in Australia. I had a wonderful time at the Universe and Olympia and only wished that I could have spent more time with you guys. I would love to catch up with you and maybe share a meal with you at next year’s Universe in Australia or Olympia in Reno. I would be happy to add a page about you on my website if you can provide your information and pictures,
I would like to begin writing articles and post them like you do, but i just can’t determine which platform to use, between blogger and wordpress. Which 1 would u suggest for a newbie like me? By the way fantastic articles you have!
Every time I see a really good article I usually do three things:1.Share it with all the close contacts.2.Bookmark it in all of the favorite sharing websites.3.Be sure to return to the same site where I read the post. After reading this post I am seriously concidering doing all of them.
The perfect advice for everybody should be to judge a website that allows you to discover with a assistive and good community. There are many weight lifting sites with groups all over the world coming together for one sole mean, to become a healthier and finer looking you. The appropriate action will direct a athlete who is sure about what to do and what is correct Weight lifters are e’er learning and wondering near a new medicine out there that can modify their performance. More than often, people know there are places all over the net studying and talking about these things. A weight lifting blog is the foremost site to be in a safe environment and read all about types of lifting supplements because one wrong vitamin could alter you. From competitions to more serious risks and even damage your body beyond fixing. Read more about Testosterone

Neil,
You can find some information about me plus a few pictures on musclememory.com Next year, lets make it a point to get together with a few fellows and break some bread.
Keep pumping,
Frank
Amazing freakin blog here. I almost cried while reading it!
Thanks Frank. Hope the see you then.
Maximuscle Cyclone: Used it for 2 months and noticed good results after first 10 days of working hard in gym. I find it a good alternative to measuring out creatine and protein mix seperately but hey these products are all about convenience right I take it for brekky each day but it takes discipline to not still snack as it doesnt fill you up by any means. I feel more full if mix it with a banana, glass of fresh orange, 1 activia and 1 actimel each morning. It takes about 5 mins and makes me feel healthy but who knows. Good luck.
This is the first time that such a response has been described in saliva, and may help explain why infection through oral sex is somewhat infrequently
used 1 tub so far and noticed gains. chocolate doesnt taste as bad as everyone says. if u want a nice drink buy some nesquik. this stuff works if u can afford it. i have switched to twister as it contains the same ingredients and you get more for your mo oney
Maximuscle Cyclone: 1st day taking it today. i am slim build 6ft 2in and 11.5 stone. anybody of a similar size seen differences and if so how long did it take
also i never said about this blog.. maybe since the “comment” link isn’t so impressive eyecatching.. but thats a few things i like relating to this blog. Its nice and quite, no people leaving stupid comments or having bullshit discussions.its simply a good blog to acquire your latest information in design/art world. continue
I found a great diet program a couple of months ago, that helped me lose a load of weight. I was really skeptical at first, as they were going on about wholegrain pasta, as being rubbish for losing weight but then my mate whose a bit a fitness freak explained how bodybuilders eat pasta to put on mass. Anyways I gave it a try, and it was really good. I managed to lose 2 stone.
Interesting thoughts here. I appreciate you taking the time to share them with us all. It’s people like you that make my day
I am very interested in. May I ask to spoon feed the detail please?
Other men live to eat, while I eat to live.
I just needed to say that I found your blog via Goolge and I am glad I did. Keep up the good work and I will make sure to bookmark you for when I have more free time away from the books. Thanks again!
Hi – interesting write-up. We love NO supplements, including Nitrix and SuperPump 250, but it’s really more about eating right. I have typically been a follower of a Paleolithic regimen. It’s much more natural and how what we’re most adapted to follow. Take a look at it when you have a chance and let me know what you think. Anyhow, nice site – I’m subscribed to your feed now so I’ll check in more often!
I love the tips on this site, they are always to the point and just the information I was looking for. Theres a link at the bottom of the page its not working, please send me the link at joanbm3@gmail.com
Wow! Thank you! I consistently wanted to write in my websites something like that. Can I take part of your article to my blogging site?
Awesome! Some people were talking about this on the local public television station last night. I happened to still have my DV recorder running from the previous show, so captured the whole thing – I’ll try to put it up on youtube and post a link! Peace out
Howdy, i just read your blog occasionally and that i own much the same one and i also was just wondering when you get a great deal of spam comments? If what exactly is prevent it, any plugin or everything else you can advise? I am much lately it’s driving me mad so any assistance can be quite much appreciated.

Your blog is precisely what I’ve been seeking. It’s a very instructive read. If every article writer would be just as human being concentrated just like you, existence could be so much easier.

Just another suggestion you shouldinstall a Translator Application for your Worldwide Audience ..
Calculating your body mass is relatively easy process. Simply divide your body weight in kilograms with your height in meters squared. While this calculation in and of itself may be quite difficult, you can obtain its chart from your doctor or on the internet at many different weight loss sites.
Couldnt agree more with that, very attractive article
